Recession-hit small businesses are actively managing their cash flow yet struggling to access finance because they are not presenting their management accounts in the correct format to the finance and credit industry. The news follows the latest research from the Forum of Private Business (FPB), commissioned by CreditPal, the free accounts analysis system for SMEs*. Small suppliers are finally being given protection from supermarkets in the form of an ombudsman, but the Forum of Private Business (FPB) is calling for further measures to help both suppliers and shops. The FPB is welcoming today’s news that the Government has accepted a recommendation for a body to enforce the Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP). It was made by the Competition Commission in 2008 after a two-year inquiry into alleged abuses in the groceries market.

With employment legislation representing small firms’ costliest bureaucratic burden, at a staggering £2.4bn per year, help is available through a free practical employment law workshop being run by the Knutsford-based Forum of Private Business (FPB) and Mace & Jones solicitors.
In addition to providing practical support and guidance, the breakfast workshop will outline both recent and imminent changes to employment legislation.
According to the FPB’s recent survey into the ‘cost of compliance’, employment law outranked health and safety (£2.1bn per year) and tax (£1.8bn) as the most onerous administrative chore faced by small-business owners, who spend an average of 37 hours per month wading through red tape.

Free weekend parking is being introduced in Rotherham town centre from November 21st after 3.00pm and at the weekends to boost town trade in the run up to Christmas. The scheme applies to all council-operated car parks and on-street parking bays throughout each weekend and after 3.00pm for the rest of the week. Wirral Council, offered 'free after3' parking initiative on every Thursday for Birkenhead, Liscard and Heswell and West Kirby in the run up to Christmas. The initiative funding was made possible by the Government's national cut in VAT from 17.5% to 15% last December 2008, which was not passed on to the public and would fund the scheme.
In Knutsford we have seen increases in parking payable from April 1st 2009 and an increase in traffic wardens on our streets to help deter shoppers from parking in our town. |
