“Let them eat cake”…and they did, for charity! PDF Print E-mail

We all know that the smell of the coffee percolator or freshly baked bread is the key to selling your house, however, staff at local estate agents Gascoigne Halman have taken things a stage further and have been baking cakes, cookies and muffins, selling them to prospective home buyers and sellers, in fact anyone passing by their offices…all in the name of a good cause.

Gascoigne Halman’s ‘Bakethon’ challenged staff at 17 offices across Cheshire, South Manchester and the High Peak, to don their aprons and whisk up some delicious donations for The Christie.  And, what a very satisfying event it proved to be with a grand total of £2,017 raised on the day.

Knutsford retail scene attracts several new tenants despite economic uncertainty. PDF Print E-mail

New companies moving in include Rohan outdoor clothing in Princess St, yet to be confirmed - A Jewellery shop in Minshull St, taking over Modelle's premises,  A new fashion clothing shop where the Dressing Room was trading, Chalon Interior design/kitchens, to open in what was formerley known as Cos Recruitment. an Art gallery in the former Starbucks, another kitchen design shop, and the already opened Aunty Mabels Seat.

Perhaps this is indicative of what life has in store for us in Knutsford thanks to the 'austerity package' created by our own Tatton MP and Chancellor, George Osborne, where we will be spending more time and money in our kitchens, buying suitable attire for 'staycation holidays' and saving money by not having to move into a larger house. .

Exiting from the retail scene in June and July sadly includes the loss of Modelle, Nasty and the Dressing Room.  Chris Orwell of Interiors, trading for the past 20 years from his premises in King Street, has decided to close and Starbucks have already left. Most owners stated that failure to address the parking issues contributed to their decision not to renew their leases.

Concerns raised over traffic chaos if pedestrianisation of King Street goes ahead. PDF Print E-mail

Businesses' concerns heighten over fear that  traffic re-routing to accommodate proposed plans for pedestrianisation will be hopelessly flawed. Existing signage proves to be totally inadequate to cope with the everyday events, whereby HGV drivers relying on their SATNAV for directions continue to enter King Street causing endless queues of traffic, and damage to parked cars. There is a feeling that between Highways and Cheshire East, there has been a  failure to address the existing issues that continuously prove that the signage is inadequate, why should they be able to provide a solution to a new set of issues that will no doubt create new challenges. If you have any views or concerns over Pedestrianisation of King Street, the Knutsford Business Club will be holding a Meeting at 6.00pm in the Angel Hotel on Tuesday 18th May 2010 for any traders or businesses that would like to have their ideas and concerns shared and supported.

If their other retail outlet in Ramsbottom is anything to go by, according to the owner Sara Wilkins, then Valencian Paella dishes will soon be flying off the shelves of  The Cooks Emporium at 111 King Street, Knutsford. Hopefully, they will not be responsible for an increase in sightings of UFO's around the town. The opening is scheduled for this Saturday 27th March. With additional retail units being let to new businesses due to open soon, King Street promises to offer visitors and residents a unique mix of independent outlets with items and products that are uniquely sourced.
